Course Description

This course provides an opportunity for students to learn about the community-based participatory research approach while being able to explore in greater depth the factors that impact disparities in health outcomes. For example, one could explore the barriers for minority high school and college students to enter the pharmacy workforce and the relationship between pharmacy workforce characteristics and health disparities in their community. Throughout this course, the pharmacy student will be taking an active role in conducting CBPR under the guidance of a faculty member. Students will learn about the CBPR process including the proper methods or techniques required to conduct research. During this course, students will be exposed to conceptualization, use of methodology, and analysis of a CBPR focused on minority pharmacist workforce and health disparities research. Students will be expected to conduct parts of the CBPR and present their preliminary findings.
