Course Description

This course emphasizes common toxic substances and pharmaceuticals (analgesics/anti-inflammatory agents, antiepileptics, cardiopulmonary medications, antimicrobials, psychotropics, substances of abuse, heavy metals, etc.) and strategies to appropriately manage ingestion of substances at unsafe, harmful levels.  A focus on various drug-induced diseases of organ systems through incorporation of pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics/dynamics and basic pathophysiologic principles will also be reinforced to manage these patients based on clinical presentation, laboratory assessment interpretation and medication reconciliation.
